The tool could be interpreted as being a farming tool used by Epimetheus as he tills the ground or as the tool Hephaestus, the blacksmith uses to mould Pandora. It is thought that the man could be Hephaestus who is moulding her out of the earth or it could be Epimetheus who will receive her as his bride. This ambiguity arises from the tool that the male next to Pandora is holding. There is a slight ambiguity as to the identity of the person standing next to her. It depicts the creation of Pandora as she is moulded from the earth by Hephaestus. The vase is currently in the collection in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford in England. The photograph on the right is that of a red figure attic vase from the Classical period named ‘The Creation of Pandora’. The above is a passage from the Sourcebook, CLAN 1001, excerpt no.26, lines 585-602. As the bees in their sheltered nests feed the drones, those conspirators in badness, and while they busy themselves all day and every day till sundown making the white honeycomb, the drones stay inside in the sheltered cells ad pile the toil of others into their own bellies, even so as a bane for mortal men has high-thundering Zeus created women, conspirators in causing difficulty.” For from her is descended the female sex, a great affliction to mortals as they dwell with their husbands – no fit partners for accursed Poverty, but only for Plenty. Both immortal gods and mortal men where seized with the wonder then they saw that precipitous trap, more than mankind can manage. “When he had made the pretty bane to set against a blessing, he ed her out where the other gods and men were, resplendent in the finery of he pale eyed one whose father is stern. The God’s had something entirely different planned for man. Thus Prometheus’s pain was eternal….that is until Heracles rescued him. Prometheus was tied to a rock and a bird of prey, the eagle ate out the flesh of his liver everyday. The Gods were angered by this action.īoth Prometheus and his creation, man were to be punished as a consequence. With the help of Athena, Prometheus went up to heaven and stole fire from the Sun. In the end, Prometheus decided he would provide man with fire. However, there was difficulty when in it came to deciding which quality to give man in order to portray his supremacy. Man was created, superior to all the inhabitants of the earth. They assigned special qualities to all the creatures, giving them both advantageous and disadvantageous qualities, so that no species would completely eradicate another. Prometheus and his brother, Epimethius created the living beings on earth, and more importantly, the first mortal man.
